Swap Links is a project funded by the Department for Veterans’ Affairs. The objective is to provide quality community participation for veterans, their widows & widowers and their carers.

Brighton, Plympton-Glenelg and Marion RSL Sub-Branches, the Vietnam Veterans Federation and Legacy Widows host the program, with funding provided by DVA. Marion and Holdfast Bay councils and the Glandore Community Centre are also project participants. An initial initiative of the project is a program inviting aged veterans and their widows within nursing homes to regular monthly luncheons. In addition to luncheons and refreshments, light entertainment is also provided and the cost of the luncheons is maintained at a minimal cost to veterans.

A total of sixteen nursing homes in the south western Adelaide metropolitan area are currently participating in this program which is proving successful, with members of veteran’s families also attending. Assistance with transport and volunteers can be arranged if required. The luncheons have been termed as “Munch & Mingle” and have the added advantage of reconnecting aged veterans and their families with the activities and facilities provided by RSL Sub-Branches.

Grant Schmerl has been engaged as Project Manager to coordinate activities, venues and participants and is employed by Aged Care Housing Group, Ph: 8350 2222 or 0417 871 270.
